I am officially 21!

Hello my freaky darlings!

So I have just turned the big two one! That's right yesterday was my 21st birthday and I had a blast!

Now don't get me wrong I have a few great friends but I didn't spend my birthday with them, my family is just so much more important to me so I spent my day with them but anywho...on to the day!

One of the best parts of the day for me was waking up and seeing that we had gotten a real pile of snow overnight!
This was a huge deal for me as the last few years for my birthday it has been either rainy or just plain bleah outside!

Oh and btw, I actually have an outfit picture! It's my first one so please forgive the quality!
Hmmm...I think I need to clean that mirror though...

Anyway we headed out once we were all ready and went to our fave breakfast place, Cora's for delicious noms!

Sooooo goood! Not surprisingly I don't take calories too seriously...I love my body and that's good enough for me!

After breakfast we headed for a Curry's (which is an art store) so my sister could use her gift card from Christmas. Then we went to Chapters and EB Games, no I didn't buy anything.

At four we headed to my Dad's (though my parents are divorced they still get along really well so my Mom came to!) and this was the sight I was greeted to! My Dad is such a mush pie! He almost started crying when he saw me!

Dinner was my Dad's homemade burgers and french fries so everybody was super happy (which makes me happy) and we watched 'Despicable Me'.

No you are probably wondering, what did the birthday girl get as far as pressies?

I got prepaid Master Cards so I can go Internet shopping (squee!)

I also got more Funko POP's including a Sandor Clegane (aka the Hound), a White Walker (who glows in the dark), Gollum, a Darth Maul and a new skirt!

My absolute favorite gift though was the picture my sister drew for me! It's an entire page filled with chibi me's in different outfits for different series including a Team Fortress 2 me, a Pokemon me and a One Piece me!

(I promise to post pics of it once I hang it up on my wall!)

So yeah, overall it was an AWESOME birthday!

〜(^∇^〜)Oh and just to add to the birthday happiness - my Pokemon Black and White 2 game wished me happy birthday!(〜^∇^)〜

That was AWESOME!

Merry Belated Christmas!

Happy belated Christmas my freaky darlings!

I hope everybody had an awesome Christmas

December 23rd
My Christmas chaos officially started December 23rd when we went to see my Aunt, Uncle and 2 older cousins in Toronto!

We had so much fun! There was even carolers! Freakin' carolers! 〜(^∇^〜)(〜^∇^)〜

December 24th
Ah Christmas Eve! We spent the first half of the day waking up at my Dad's and eating bacon and eggs (my Dad is an awesome cook btw)!

Later on in the day we headed back to my Mom's for family torture, aka old people! Old people everywhere!

December 25th
My sister actually let me sleep in on Christmas morning! Amazing eh? We woke up around 7:35 (yes that's late for us) and had a unwrapping bonanza!

Ultimately I got:
Tragically my costume did not come in in time (nor did my sisters) but if that's my only problem than that's the least of my worries.

So all in all I was a most happy little gothaberry this fine holiday season!

So about you all, what did you lovelies get for Christmas?

BTW I promise to add pictures of what I wore to this post once I figured out

All I want for Christmas...

Hello and merry December my freaky darlings!

With December totally underway and my semester almost done, all I have is an in-class assignment/exam next Wednesday and then I'm done! So my mind is totally on Christmas and Christmasy thoughts!

This weekend were (my Mom, sister and I) are going to Square One to finish off our Christmas shopping (aka buying for my Dad).

I know a lot of people try to avoid talking about presents to prevent from sounding greedy but come ON we all know we love presents (whether it be giving or recieving).

So I decided to make a Christmas top 10 on things I would love this Christmas! (Though it's a top 10 it really isn't in order)

10.) Lightsaber Umbrella from ThinkGeek
I really need a new umbrella and I think something along this line would be perfect (especially as it could double as a cosplay item!)

9.) More Funko POP's from Funko POP
I have recently started collecting these little cuties, I have a Loki and Gizmo so far but I really want to have more of them!

8. Dishonoured from EB Games
Ever since I saw the SyFy 'Face Off' episode where they designed characters based off of this game I have totally wanted it!

7.) Lego Lord of the Rings from EB Games
The LEGO brand games based on series are just THE funniest things ever!

6.) Skeleton Dress from Kreepsville
I love love love LOVE this dress and would love one of my own! ♥‿♥

5.) Sugar Skull Cardigan from Sourpuss
I have recently fallen in love with cardigans! It may be because my school is freezing!

4.) Hair Clips from Etsy
I recently got my hair cut and I have discovered that it looks ADORABLE with hair clips of any kind!

3.) Spiked Hairband from Etsy
And hairbands as well! They also look fab in my hair

2.) Hellbunny top and skirt from EBay
This listing is actually just for the skirt but I love the top as well and intend on adding it to my wardrobe!

1.) My Anime North 2012 Cosplay!
This I know I am getting as my Mom decided that she planned on giving it to me ages ago as a Christmas present!

So that's my list! What about you lovlies? Anything in particular your hoping for? Feel free to post a comment and share!

Welcome to my Blog

Hello my freaky darlings and welcome to my little garden of words on the web.
About the Blog
What is ‘Technikitty: The Life and Times of a Freaky Geek’ about? Well, exactly what it sounds like! This blog will be focusing on my life as a geeky young lady with a gothic flair thrown in. It will have entries on a wide variety of topics that will range from Con reports to game reviews and even a few outfit posts and interviews thrown into the mix.

I have no real direct plan for this blog.  I suppose if anything, I just really want some writing practice considering the College program I’m in…but more on that later.
The Freaky Aspect
What can I say about my freakdom? I suppose I have always been a little weird and inclined to the dark and macabre. Maybe it all started with my fascination for witches and monsters? Or maybe it was my Dad taking me to a restaurant that is famous in the area for its hauntings and telling me to always be polite to ghosts (yes I was that little girl who yelled ‘Bye Miss. Emily’ up into the attic where the ghost was reputed to haunt in hopes that she would one day respond).

Well whatever I was it definitely helped mold me into the ghost loving-sun avoiding-horror movie hounding-cemetery exploring-gothling that I am today!
About the Writer

My name is Katrina, more commonly known as Kat by my classmates. I am a 20-year-old chica in my first-year of Broadcast Journalism in a Canadian College. I chose to use the online moniker ‘Technikitty’ after I misread my teacher’s horrible writing and thought that his comment ‘technically’ said ‘Technikitty’.
When I’m not attending cons or exploring graveyards I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, cuddling and generally adoring my cat, coming up with elaborate story ideas that never seem to get anywhere past the planning stage, and reading anything I can get my hands on!

Well now I must be off. I have things to do and people to bother so until next time, I bid you adieu and safe travels.

Holiday Polyvore Posts

Hello my freaky darlings and welcome to my first (of hopefully many) Polyvore posts!

Anyway, now that Rememberance Da is over, my mind has completely turned to, you guessed it, Christmas time!

Lately I have been obssesed with making Polyvore posts! I blame The Dark Victorian! Polyvore posts are just such a great way to plan outfits and decide future clothing purchases.

So I had the urge to create Polyvore posts based on the outfits I wish I could wear for a couple of important December events!

Enjoy!

Last day of classes (aka the last day of my first semester of my first year in Broadcast Journalism)
Last Day of School
Last Day of School by technikitty featuring long tops
My last day of school is Friday the 14th (at least I'm pretty sure it is) and I plan on looking good!

The long skirt and sleeves is mainly because my Newswriting classroom is always freakin' cold and I have to take a bus afterwards.

Once again I went with a very black and red colour scheme with a cute red hair rose.

December 22nd, which this year is going to be one of my 3 Christmas dinners!

Rich Family Christmas

Every other year I go to my Dad's sister's place, my Godmother and Aunt's, house for Christmas Day Dinner but this year were going earlier because my Aunt and her family are going away!

So the basis of this outfit is elegance but still pretty dark. My Dad expects my sister and I to dress up for family events, but I love any excuse!

On the 24th I am at my Mom's for Christmas dinner and I'm pretty sure that my Aunt and Grandmother will be coming over.

Anytime my Grandmother comes over I like to look my absolute best, though I'm not entirely sure why....

Nonetheless, more black and red here with a great beaded necklace and, le gasp, painted nails!

December 25th, Christmas day and family dinner with my Dad's side
Christmas Day Comfort

Since red is such a big Christmas colour, and a great Goth colour, I really wanted to go with a red and black colour scheme.

I love the idea of wearing a floofy skirt on Christmas day! The image of sitting in a pile of fluffy cuteness while opening gifts is just so appealing to me!

I added the slippers because both my Dad and my Mom's house have wooden floors and I am damn clumsy!

December 29th, my 21st birthday
Happy Birthday To Me!

For my birthday I'm getting to go see 'The Nutcracker' with my Mom and sister so I figured that going elegant but flirty would be a good way to go.

I have New Years as an event too of course but I'm not sure if I'm going to a party or going out for a fancy dinner so that outfit will have to wait.

Happy Halloween!

Hello my freaky darlings and please accept my deepest apologies for my lack of posts!

I know I promised a post for last Monday but things got a little crazy in the kittyverse. I wasn’t too worried though about missing ‘deadlines’ since I don’t really have any followers yet (btw if anyone is reading this please comment to show that I’m not just talking with myself).

Anywho, HAPPY HALLOWEEN MY LOVELIES!

Here in Canada it’s pretty damn wet and cold so it got me thinking about Halloween costumes in general. Women have such crappy options for costumes. Their either super slutty or just plain frumpy.
So today I’m going to talk about things to remember when choosing a costume!
Good for bar not for children's party
Where are you wearing the outfit: Are you going to a bar or to a family party? Will you be indoors or outdoors? All of these are really important to think about. It’s not the best idea to wear a skimpy little number if you plan on heading out to trick-or-treat. It’s also not the best idea to wear a floofy dress to a bar or club.

You say cute, reviews say eww!
Read reviews: Before buying a costume you may want to find websites that allow previous buyers to review the costume. Otherwise you may end up with a train wreck! A lot of costumes may look nice but their reviews could say anything from flimsy material to falls apart easily! Two great sites for reviews are: http://www.spirithalloween.com/ and http://www.buycostumes.com/.
Is this seriously considered 'pus-size'?

Check Sizing: Never ever ever ever EVER assume that the size you usually are is the same as the size of the costume you want to get. Costumes are usually made either too small or too big so once again read reviews!
You will need an under-outfit...TRUST ME!
Underclothes: Some costumes are just too damn short to be appropriate so always be prepared to shell out a few more bucks on petticoats, tights, new bras, etcs. Also remember that you may have to wear full clothing underneath if you don’t want to freeze.

Too hazardous for club
Check Dress Codes: Some bars and clubs have rules for costumes. No masks, no big skirts, etc. So before you shell out the big bucks check the rules! Also if you plan on choosing a costume that just NEEDS the accessory (Freddy’s glove etc) check the rules on those too!

Wig is SO required
To Wig or not to Wig: I hate Halloween wigs. They are crap. But sometimes they make the costume. If you decide to get a wig always think first about whether you can handle the itchy-scratchy-ness that is a Halloween wig (Yes I am a total wig snob).
Apparently this is fat now
Don’t feel bad if it doesn’t fit: Never feel bad if the costume doesn’t fit right. These costumes are made for lingerie models, not normal people! So you will rarely find a costume that fits exactly like you see in the picture.
Have Fun: This may sound stupid but always rember to have fun in costume! Halloween is supposed to be fun! Don’t stress over whether or not you look fat or if someone else has the same costume. This is the one night of the year where you can be anything you want to be!

So I hope that helped or was at least interesting to read. Tomorrow I plan on (finally) posting the second half of my goth story! I promise!
Bright blessings and blessed Samhain,

Technikitty

The Odd Tale of a Technikitty

Hello again my freaky darlings! That’s right I have ANOTHER new post for you lovelies! And as promised it is going to be a ‘freaky’ post!

In the case of this post I will be talking a bit about my own journey into developing my own style. I apologize to everyone as this one may be a little odd and very wordy compared to the others.

I think the best way to start would be to tell you about a dream I had on August 13th

-----------------------------------------------------

In the dream I was still at the University of Waterloo (a story I may share sometime or another) and I was living in the dorms.

A group of girls from my floor all decided to go out to a new Vampire-based carnival ride. Once I got there, I was seperated from the group and found myself in a hallway (it looked like Central Station) filled with gothic lolitas and goths of all kinds!

Confused and scared I approached one goth girl and asked her who she was. She turned to me and said ‘It doesn’t matter who I am.” Then her friend, a gothic lolita, turned to me and said “Or who you are now.” And then their final friend, a steampunk looking girl said, “All that matters is who you want to be.” Then they all said, “So who do you want to be?”

Upset I said, ‘I don’t know’ and ran off. Luckily I found my group again but they seemed highly uninterested in me and one said, "Why would we hang out with someone who doesn't even know who she is?"

And for the first time I looked down at my outfit.

I was wearing jeans and a boring tshirt.

As I looked around I saw all of these flashing posters flipping between different styles – lolita, rockabilly, preppie, goth- all the time with the other girls chanting ‘Who do you want to be.”

Everything was spinning around me and I finally yelled ‘Stop!’

The room went silent, the posters all frozen with the words ‘Who do you want to be?’

Looking down at my hands I felt a strange feeling of calm and I said out loud “I don’t want to look like what they think I should, I want to look like ME!”

Then the room started fading away, leaving only the three girls from earlier and an incredibly handsome gothically garbed young man, standing directly behind me. He took my hand in his and said, “Then I hope you will be happy in the life you’ve chosen” and kissed my hand.

----------------------

I woke up from that dream feeling shockingly calm and it was that day that I told my Mother straight out that I wanted to start dressing ‘Goth’.

And she said with a smile, "I'm so happy that you have finally decided who you want to be."

And that’s all I’m going to share with you today! But I promise to post part 2 into my journey of self-discovery sooner or later.

Thanks for reading!

Under Cosplayed

Hello my freaky darlings and welcome back!

So today is going to be another more geeky post (I promise that the next one will be more on the freaky side).

So today’s topic is one that my sister and I have chatted about numerous times and it's under cosplayed series and characters!

At Anime North you tend to see a lot of Naruto and Black Butler cosplayers, so just more popular series in general. And there is nothing wrong with that! But I'd love to see some more variety in Cosplay!

That's why I'm going to make a list (yes I'm obsessed with lists) of my top 10 cosplays I would love to see!

10.) Battle Royale
This is without a doubt one of my favorite series of all time! You do see a lot of Battle Royale movie cosplays but I'd prefer to see more of the really distnict characters from the Manga.

9.) Deadman Wonderland
Ah Deadman Wonderland. I really enjoyed this series, but I don't see a lot of cosplays from it. I pretty much only see Shiro cosplayers.

8.) Final Fantasy characters other than just X-2 and XIII
Every year at Anime North I see sooooo many X-2 and XIII cosplayers but very little of any other series. It’s kinda sad. There are just sooooo many great outfits in Final Fantasy that are just never cosplayed.

7.) Tekken Franchise
Much like I mentioned in my Male Cosplayer post, you don’t see a lot of Tekken cosplayers in Canada. But I really love Tekken and I would kill to see more characters cosplayed.

6.) Samurai Warriors
Dynasty Warriors, the other creation from Koei, is really well cosplayed. But Samurai warriors is kinda left on the wayside. I’m not sure why though…

5.) Petshop of Horrors
I swear this series is like candy for the eyes! There are just so many incredible designs and creatures. You would think that it would be really popular, yet I have seen very few cosplays from it.

4.) Harvest Moon Franchise
These games are so fun. I love them so. And they would (for the most part) be really easy to cosplay from due to the simplicity of the outfits. It would be so great to see an entire ‘town’ of cosplayers.

3.) Ragnarok Online
The nice thing about online game cosplays is that you can make them your own. You can choose a different wig, weapon, and even accessories to make it your own. But have I seen any cosplayers at any Con I have gone to? Nope.

2.) Fatal Frame Franchise
I love spooky cosplays. There is just so much opportunity in Cosplaying them to get great creepy shots and poses. They also can be reborn for Halloween and Horror events as erll as Gaming and. Fatal Frame is considered to be one of the most popular ghost/horror games of all time and yet it’s super under cosplayed. Why cosplayers? WHHHHHHY?!

1.) Fire Emblem Franchise
I love love LOVE the Fire Emblem games and it breaks my heart thatI see so few cosplays of its amazingly detailed characters! I mean theres a variety of hair colours, armour, weapons it’s like a cosplay paradise! Even with the popularity of the ‘Smash Brothers’ games, Fire Emblem remains under-cosplayed.

So that’s that. I know I have never cosplayed any of these series myself (bad me) but I plan on it! Anywho, thanks for reading and I promise that next time I will post a ‘freaky’ post!

The 15th Annual Royale Medieval Faire

Hello my freaky darlings! I hope you all had a fabulous week and it’s time for my review of the 15th annual Royal Medieval Faire (Yay!)

But before I get really into it, I have to say that I’m using my stepdad’s camera and it is EVIL! So it may take a bit for the pics from the faire to be up.

So the Royal Medieval Faire is a completely volunteer run Medieval Faire held in the Waterloo West Park every September. The nice thing about this event is the interactivity of it. The characters, which range from Pirates to Nobles, wander around the Faire when not working the plot which occurs every hour and half hour and interact with the fairgoers, all while staying in character.

I worked in both the 13th and 14th year of the fair but chose to leave due to way too much drama off stage. It was nice though, as this year I attended as just a regular fairgoer.

This year the plot was based loosely around ‘Game of Thrones’ and was called ‘Game of Murdered Thrones’ as it was based around a six-year-old murder mystery that was re-brought on by the murdered Queen’s troublemaking brother, the King of Dearth.

I didn’t stay too watch the whole show though, as it goes till 5PM and my poor sister has a lot of homework AND a cold (poor pippi). I’m okay with that though as it always ends in a happy ending and the King of Mearth will deffinetly stay as King.

Anyway, I chose to re-wear my Stocking dress from Anime North 2012 and I added a pair of elf ears which I bought two years ago. I also wore a t-shirt under it to make the outfit a little warmer. I was really pleased with the end result though, and I guess everyone else was too as I got loads of compliments and even a few pictures – including one of the faires runners (:

The faire itself is a little…uh…dull. It’s mostly kid based with childish games like a battering ram and foam sword fighting. But there are some super cool booths that selling everything from chainmail to actual weaponry.  I suppose the main appeal of the faire is to watch the actors and see the great costumes. Unfortunately only the latter was really good this year ): I don’t know why but the actors were kinda meh this year. But I guess they are just better with children then with other adults.

My favorite part of the whole day? An adorable little girl telling me that I looked like a princess! Seeing peoples responses to my outfits is always one of my favorite parts of Cosplaying!

Overall it is a good way to spend a few hours, despite the not so adult friendly atmosphere.

Thanks for reading everybody and now I bid you a fond adieu and safe travels!
